Victorian 1886 INITIALS FHL LOVE TOKEN Hand-Engraved Seated Liberty Dime Charm

Love tokens were commonly romantic keepsakes, popular between the later part of the 1800s through the early part of the 1900s.
One or both sides of a coin were ground smooth, allowing the engraver to decorate the flat sides with initials, names, pictorial scenes, dates or tokens of love.
Often, the token was given to a sweetheart in times of war as a gesture of remembrance and love or to commemorate a birthday, anniversary or death.
{ ABOUT THE CHARM }
The front of this 1886 Seated Liberty dime features the initials FHL engraved in script surrounded by a decorative motif. A hole has been drilled at the top for a jump ring.
